Berish Gun Shop is a family owned business located in a rural area of southwest Pennsylvania about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.

The gunsmith business began like so many others, as a hobby. My father, Joseph S. Berish started doing custom stock work and checkering for a local gun shop in the 1960’s. I became interested in the trade after I returned from a tour of duty in the Air Force and enrolled in the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School in 1972.

Sharon and I got married in 1975 and has assumed the bookkeeping and paperwork part of the business along with some of the ordering. Joe came along in 1976, and as soon as he was walking has spent much of his time in the shop. Since then after college and some machinist training he is now able to do much of the metal work and some stock work, but is most helpful with ordering and keeping the work flowing through the shop. Laura arrived in 1977 and helped her mother with the bookkeeping work until she left for college, got a degree, a good job and a husband and is now taking care of her own family.
