MUZZLE BRAKES
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF OUR PREMIUM BRAKE

Our venture in the design and manufacture of Muzzle Brakes began about 20 years ago. We had many customers getting into silhouette shooting with Contenders and Custom XP-100 pistols who asked for help in keeping down the muzzle. These early brakes were not designed to counter recoil, but to counter the muzzle rise. When the Ultra Mag and short magnum calibers came into popularity things really took off. With a few design changes the brakes cut the recoil by 35-50%.The brakes allowed the customer to concentrate on their sight picture without getting walloped. First off we decided that the precision and concentricity of the exit hole was most important in the efficiency and the accuracy of the  rifle. This meant that purchasing ready made brakes and relying on someone else to give us a good part was out of the question. We bought a better Vertical Mill with digital readouts and a Super Spacer to control the accuracy of the brakes. All machining on our brakes is done “In House”.

We offer two styles of Muzzle Brakes and for lack of fancy words we call our basic brake the “Standard” brake. This brake is similar on the outside to a lot of brakes with equally spaced holes 360 degrees around the brake. The difference is on the inside. We do not machine an expansion chamber in our brakes. From the moment the bullet leaves the barrel the bullet effectively seals the bore in the brake and the excess powder gasses are vented “Progressively” in the trip through the brake. We can do this and not affect accuracy as the concentricity between the brake and the rifle bore is kept to less than .0005”.

Our “Premium” brake is very similar to the Standard brake but has the holes mostly on the top of the brake. The size and number of holes may vary with caliber. When the gun goes off the muzzle rise is controlled. The gun comes “straight back” and allows you to get on target faster for a follow up shot if necessary. The muzzle control is so efficient on our Premium Brake that the torque of the bullet twisting the gun is noticed. The gun torque is always there in all guns but with the recoil is not noticed. We are working on this for future improvements.

The major draw back with all brakes is the increased muzzle blast and noise. We angle the holes forward to combat this but as with shooting all guns, you should wear hearing protection. The new technology of the electronic muffs or plugs works very well with allowing you to hear and to protect your hearing.
